Artifacts from Each Day, Water A Monument for the Water Protectors of Standing Rock and Beyond
Handmade wood-fired porcelain vessels, water from Standing Rock, audio from Water Protectors.
Four porcelain vessels filled with water from the Missouri and Cannonball rivers on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation are shown alongside an audio installation that includes statements of 24 Water Protectors from Standing Rock and other Oceti Sakowin (Seven Council Fires of the Great Sioux Nation) communities, as well as their allies in the Water Protector Movement. Phelps Meyer's project honors the indigenous-led Water Protector Movement that gained historic power and momentum at Standing Rock during the 2016-17 #noDAPL stand against the Dakota Access Pipeline, the "Black Snake" of fossil fuel infrastructure. -Elizabeth Phelps Meyer
