Why Ecotopia? Increasingly, ecotopian thought is concerned with climate change as an urgent issue that is being accelerated and exacerbated by industrial activities. Utopias concern pressing questions about human life and diversity, including justice and injustice, freedom and confinement, values and ethics. A viable ecotopia addresses human and nonhuman needs. Because ecotopias hold that in our uncertain times, reclaiming the power of utopian thinking through an ecological lens can be a critical means of interrogating dominant systems and offering alternative visions.
